What Do You Do When An Earthquake Occurs

2020.12.07

When an earthquake occurs and you are showering or in the bathroom, what do you do?

[When in the bathroom]

Stay low to the ground and do not panic. Do not sit on the toilet, since it may break and cause injury.

Stay away from mirrors and cabinets and other things that may fall.

[Showering]

Do not hurry to get out of the bathtub. If you are bathing, place your head lower than the edge of the bathtub. Use your arms to protect your head. When moving, be careful of the wet floor to prevent slipping.

[Cooking]

If you are cooking with a gas stove, immediately shut off the gas and seek shelter until the earthquake ends.

[Sleeping]

Stay in the bed and use a pillow or the blanket to protect your head until the earthquake ends.

[Living room, study]

Crawl under a table (unless the table has a glass top). Hold on to the legs of the table. Stay away from glass windows, hanging lights, ceiling fans, or other furniture that can fall. Keep low and use your arms to protect your head and neck.

[Flashlight]

Earthquakes can cause blackouts. A flashlight should be kept at the ready in an easily reachable place when you sleep.

When an earthquake occurs, the most important thing to remember is to remain calm and  to protect your head and neck.
