Furniture Stabilizing Methods

2020.12.07

The most dangerous thing in anearthquake is falling furniture or items falling from high places and hittingpeople. Furniture safety for earthquakes should be checked and practicedregularly to establish good disaster preparation and response measures.

The following are various furniturestabilizing methods:

[Windows and glass items]

You can stick shatter-proofmembrane on windows to prevent the spread of broken glass.

[Bookshelves]

An L-bracket can be used to fix thebookshelf, which can effectively prevent the shelf from falling over. If holescannot be drilled, use a support frame to fix the furniture to the ceiling andadd slip-proof pads or mats to the bottom of the furniture.

[Television]

Place televisions at low heightswhere possible, and add slip-proof pads or mats to prevent sliding. Or, usemetal chains or rope to fix televisions in place and prevent moving.

[Stacked cabinets]

Recommend using a L-bracket on thetop cabinet to fix the cabinet in place, or use a support fame for the samepurpose. Use metal connectors to connect the top and bottom cabinets.

Add a locking ring or spring to thecabinet door to prevent the objects inside from falling out when an earthquakeoccurs.

[Furniture placement]

Furniture and beds must be kept ata safe distance apart to prevent furniture from falling and injuring people inbed in the event of an earthquake.

Bookshelves and closets should beplaced in a manner where, if they fall, they will not fall on beds.

Trophies, aquariums, potted plants, and other heavy objects should be secured so that they do not slide or fall.
