2. The amount of water in a riverin the wild suddenly increases (visual)—there is possibly torrential rainupstream.

3. Abnormal sounds (audio)—there ispossibly a collapse or landslide that has already occurred upstream.

4. The amount of river waterrapidly decreases (visual)—upstream rivers/streams may have been obstructed bylandslide materials, forming a dammed lake.

5. Trees and branches are floatingon the river (visual)—there is possibly a landslide or erosion of the riverbankthat has occurred upstream.

6. The river water is abnormallyturbid or muddy (visual)—there is possibly a landslide or erosion of theriverbank that has occurred upstream.

7. There are sounds of rocksrubbing against each other in the river (audio)—caused by the rapid increase inwater flow.

8. There is a smell of rottenplants and earth (olfactory)—there is possibly a landslide that occurredupstream which also caused trees to fall over; the rotting layers of the treescan emit an earthy smell of rotten wood.

9. There are sounds of trees andwood breaking or snapping (audio)— there is possibly a landslide that occurredupstream which also caused trees and branches to break with audible noise.

10. Abnormal animal behavior(visual)—animal senses tend to be more acute than human senses; animals mayhave the ability to detect abnormal natural phenomena before human beings areable to.

11. Feeling of the earth vibrating(tactile)—landslides can cause ground-level vibrations.

12. There are “loudbanging sounds” soundsupstream (audio) and light or lightning-like flashes—these phenomena can be theresult of the movement and tumbling of large rocks during landslides.

What should you do if you receive alandslide warning announcement on your mobile phone?

If it is a yellow warning message:

Theunderprivilegedshouldbe evacuated early. Home environment and safety should be checked. Close allthe windows and doors and have emergency kits (bug-out bags), clothing, andimportant documents with you. Be ready for an evacuation. Continue to listen toweather reports and news broadcasts for information.

If it is a red alert message:

Carry your emergency kits (bug-outbags), clothing, and important documents with you. Evacuate to the emergencyshelter or shelter in other area. Wait until the landslide alert has beenlifted. Remember to notify friends and family and evacuation team members whichshelter you evacuated to.
