When cooking in the kitchen, “be presentwhen the heat is on; turn the heat off when leaving”.
- Immediately turn off the heat whenfinished using it.
- Do not place flammable materials near thestove.
- Do not fill up pots or pans too high withwater to prevent water from boiling over the sides of the pot or pan andextinguishing the stove’s flame.
- Grease and oil can accumulate in theexhaust fan and piping, and that grease and oil can easily catch fire.Regularcleaning and maintenance of the exhaust is recommended.
- Homes not equipped with an automatic firealarm system should have fire alarms installed according to fire preventionregulations.
What if a grease fire occurs duringcooking?
Follow this rule:
1. Follow these three steps in exactlythis order:
(1) turn off the stove or the heat source → (2) cover the flames with the metallid → ( 3)Let the oil cool off.
2. Never dump water on the grease fire.
3. If the fire is too big to handle, callfor help immediately and leave the premises. Call 119 and report the fireimmediately.
